Jean-Paul Auffray studied physics and mathematics at the University of Columbia in New York. He is also a musician, philosopher and historian. He is the author of several books, including L’Espace-temps (1996) and L’Atome (1997), published by Flammarion. He is considered to be the leading specialist on the life and works of the young mathematical genius.
